Super 8 began its first operation in Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1974 and has rooms rate starting at $8.88 a night, thus explaining the “8” attached to the hotel brand. From a simple motel chain, Super 8 grew immediately and became available for franchise 2 years after its conception. The business started with Dennis Brown in 1972. However, after one year of operation, Ron Rivett and Dennis Brown cancelled the association and created the Super 8 Motel corporation, splitting the company in half between them. By 1993, Super 8 opened its 1000th property in Mount Vernon, Ohio, a milestone achieved in just two decades of operation. The number doubled by 2001 and became available through online reservations in 2014 after the company launches its website worldwide. In the United States and Canada alones, Super 8 has more than 2000 properties. At present, The Super 8 brand has also reached China, Germany and Brazil.

Super 8 is now part of the Wyndham Hotel Group with more than 2400 locations around the globe, and considered the biggest name in the economy hotel industry. Super 8 hotels are either independently owned or franchised under the Super 8 Worldwide.

Cons: Fix or deal with this: Air Conditioner in room did not work. Screen torn to outside, cigarette burns in blankets. No room amenities. microwave knob broke off. Nothing but waffle and cereal for breakfast. Only drink was coffee. I was glad my car didn't get broke into, seemed in a rough section of town.

Pros: The room was among the worst I have ever stay in the past 20 years. The bed covers and floor had cigarette burns, the wool mid covers on both beds had large visible stains. The window screen was visible ripped. The overall cleanliness was terrible. I purchased a king bed room through a third party and received a two queen bed room due to no availability of the king bed that was prepaid for. I spoke with the staff at check out and seemed very well aware of the horrible condition of the room by telling me they had already ordered new covers for the bedding. I don’t understand why a branded hotel would ever allow for such a dump or the staff would have checked a customer into a room that in the condition. I definitely feel ripped off for having paid the full rate for paying full rate for such poorly maintained room.

Pros: This location is HORRIBLE. I was asked at check in if we would like to see the two rooms that were available & that we could choose which one we wanted, I had never been asked to look at a room first, but figured since they offered and since my first impression wasn’t good, I had better. We only looked at one room, the floor was dirty, nonsmoking, smelled of cigarettes & marijuana. Needless to say, we went elsewhere. Country Inn had an open room for a comparable price and was clean. This Super 8 was disgusting.

Pros: Pillows were comfortable but way too small.

Cons: DIRTY! Even the hard surface hallway was filthy. Breakfast was advertised, but not available. The dining area was beyond filthy. The waffle machine was out of order, the juice machine was empty/unplugged, milk was outdated. Only offer was a dry cereal.
