About Super 8 Motel By Wyndham Brand Hotels

Super 8 began its first operation in Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1974 and has rooms rate starting at $8.88 a night, thus explaining the “8” attached to the hotel brand. From a simple motel chain, Super 8 grew immediately and became available for franchise 2 years after its conception. At present, it will cost you a minimum of $169,270 investment plus franchise fee to afford a Super 8 motel.

The business started with Dennis Brown in 1972. However, after one year of operation, Ron Rivett and Dennis Brown cancelled the association and created the Super 8 Motel corporation, splitting the company in half between them. By 1993, Super 8 opened its 1000th property in Mount Vernon, Ohio, a milestone achieved in just two decades of operation. The number doubled by 2001 and became available through online reservations in 2014 after the company launches its website worldwide. In the United States and Canada alones, Super 8 has more than 2000 properties. At present, The Super 8 brand has also reached China, Germany and Brazil.

Super 8 is now part of the Wyndham Hotel Group with more than 2400 locations around the globe, and considered the biggest name in the economy hotel industry. Super 8 hotels are either independently owned or franchised under the Super 8 Worldwide.

Pros: The best part of the rooms was the art above the beds! The staff was great. Everyone (front desk & cleaning crew) was accommodating and friendly. The location was good. We were close to the baseball field and town.

Cons: This property is very tired (beds, sofa, chairs, dcor). I paid extra for a suite and it was not so sweet. It was the same as the other room we had with a sofa instead of the extra bed. The sofa wasn't a pullout and was in bad shape. We thought the beds were supposed to be queen size but seemed more like a full/double and sagged in the middle. We had the A/C on in both of our rooms. The good news is that it kept the rooms nice and cool. The bad news is that it made the rooms smell musty. The other big issue is that the side doors remain unlocked all day/night so it's easy for any non-guest to enter the motel.

Pros: Inexpensive and right on the route I was traveling. Convenient access to restaurants

Cons: Was not as clean as it could have been. The decor felt like the 1970s. When I poured coffee at breakfast, I could see the bottom of the cup. Very weak coffee.

Cons: The room rate was ridiculous!! I travel and stay in that area for work quite a bit. It was the highest rate I've paid anywhere in at least three years. I will not stay there again.

Pros: I liked nothing.

Cons: I had put in a request for extra pillows because I have a bad back and instead of extra pillows I got put on the second floor (up 15 steps with no elevator) and no extra pillows, a wet bed, a TV that didn't work, three lights that the bulbs were burned out. And for this I had to pay $140 and I don't think that's fair or realistic I would really really appreciate a refund on all or part of my stay cuz it was an absolute disgrace. Oh and they charged me $140 for a room booking.com quoted me $107. And they did it at 6am when i wasnt checking in until after 3pm. Total nightmare.
