With an ambitious vision of restoring the wildlife and ecological diversity in Eastern Cape, Shamwari Private Game Reserve had humble beginnings. It has not always been fun and games, because the company started the journey with tremendous work to accomplish. Today, it houses five (5) of seven (7) biomes in South Africa, making it a sought-after ecological and biodiversity destination.

 

The story of Shamwari Private Game Reserve started in 1990 when it acquired a 1,200-hectare farm. It was able to expand the acquisition to a total of 7,000 hectares, when several farmers decided to sell their properties due to financial difficulties. Since then, it has been committed to restore and preserve the flora and fauna in the area.

 

The years of hard work of Shamwari Private Game Reserve paid off when the area has officially been declared as a Protected Environment. Today, it has an explorer camp, two (2) education and rehabilitation facilities, and six (6) luxury lodges. More importantly, these efforts have created employment opportunities for hundreds of locals.

 

What makes Shamwari Private Game Reserve so successful today is the passion and commitment of the people behind the scenes. All staff members work in harmony to ensure the sustainability of conservatory efforts and the preservation of biodiversity in the region.
