Cons: As soon as we arrived at the reception for check in, some elderly women were very concerned that they cannot find their room, nobody from the staff been able to help them, the reception staff keep giving them same directions even when they been told that they tried but is too complicated for them and they need assistance with the room, my boyfriend and I offered to help them with the room and key system after we check in. The receptionist lady seems really unhappy with my comments but she proceeds our checking in, been offered a awful room, small with a window which cannot be opened, when we asked to change the room been told that the hotel is under refurbishment and there are not any other rooms available for us. The leisure centre was closed for a month and we only been told that after we checked in.Is a shame because I believe the hotel is a gem but is getting worst and worst every time we come in, probably this time was the last one anyway because of too many disappointing things.

Pros: Nothing apart from the staff who were very nice despite working in such a poor environment.

Cons: The rooms are hot and stuffy - uncomfortably so with no option to control the temperature - this done centrally for the entire hotel - also no option to open a window - painted closed. Beds are hard and uncomfortable and the pillows too high and hard - had to sleep with head rested on folded towels. Rooms are not cleaned or serviced (sign informing you of this when you get to room) - so must make your bed. Coffee etc not replenished. Floor really uneven and creaked so much that the rooms above and surrounding sounded like another person was in your room. Also felt hazardous to walk on if you had mobility issues. Yes I appreciate it’s an old building but this degree of instability is beyond acceptable allowing for age of building. No food availability after 9 pm. I was visiting my mother in a nearby care home and returned to be told the restaurant closed at 9 (it was around 9.15) - but the bar menu would be available. I went to the bar but was then informed that nothing was available as the kitchen closed at 9. All I could get was a packet of crisps. The decor is beyond tired - the whole place has a moribund quality. Carpets look dirty and worn, glasses in room were chipped. Pool and spa facilities were closed (I didn’t need to use them and to be fair the website does inform you of this pre-booking). The main restaurant is also currently closed - can’t remember its name). It is beyond doubt the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had and way overpriced. I’m returning next weekend to Bournemouth to visit my mother again and have booked a Premier Inn at nearly half the room rate. The staff I encountered were all very nice and engaging and I honestly feel sorry for them having to work with such a poor product. My advice to potential guests - avoid like the plague. To the lovely staff - find a job in hospitality elsewhere you’re worth more than that hotel. The only other possible positive factor is its location which is good.

Pros: We always like the hotel. The location is perfect for the views the beach the gardens and the town.

Cons: On the many times we’ve been before the spa has been a bit tatty and run down but it’s always been open. The spa is one of the main reasons we chose this hotel. On this platform we were informed that the spa was undergoing refurbishment and would be open on April 1st. We got to the hotel to discover the actual date was May 1st.

Do not recommend it

Pros: Hotel location

Cons: The room view the car park. Could not open the curtains cause people were passing the whole time. Could not have a good sleep cause workers were chatting in the early morning. Corridors are smelly. Poor Wifi signal in the public area, we used our own internet. No room telephone to call the reception in the emergencies. Coffee is not tasty and cheap quality.

Pros: I fell in love with the orginal historical athmosphere in the building, the big beautiful garden, the saloons and the corridores. You could almost sence the hotelguests that had stayed there in the earlier about 200 years ago. Absolutely a very unique experience and delightful for me to stay in such untouched historical building. For me staying here liftet me higher and made Bornemouth á city that Í will surely visit again since staying in this hotel made me feel quite simply marvelous.
