Kike Sarasola is the brains behind the success of Room Mate Hotels, together with his husband Carlos Marrero. Room Mate Hotels is an international Spanish hotel chain that opened in 2005.

Kike and Carlos had brainstormed on how they want Room Mate Hotels to be different from the other existing hotels. They realized that they are paying too much and that they never had fully utilized all the amenities. Plus, most of the time the locations are far from the city. After considering all the experiences that they had, they realized that they need to create a hotel that will feel like you’re just visiting a friend. So, they removed some of the unnecessary amenities and services but made sure to retain the most important ones.

The philosophy behind this Spanish hotel chain is to view the hotel as their home, which is why their hotels are named after a name like hotel Luca in Florence and hotel Pau in Barcelona. I am thrilled with the experience I had at Room Mate Isabella.

Pros: The breakfast is fantastic. Only place I've been to that offers pancakes, bacon and eggs. And there plenty of choices for a more traditional Italian and European breakfast. The staff was very helpful in arranging taxis, and in recommending restaurants and gelaterias.

Pros: Property is in a brilliant location above Gucci store. Staff were fantastic very kind and welcoming make our stay lovely. Bed was fantastic and comfortable.

Pros: Superb location. All the major attractions are just a few minutes walk. The hotel and staff are exceptional. Beautiful room with views (suite). The best part are the staff, nothing is too much trouble and always available to advise and help. Highly recommend.

Cons: Access to hotel lobby and moving luggages by ourselves were not that convenient. Also, I stayed in the 4th floor (room with very good view) but toilet is somehow very small comparing to the room size itself. Secondly, it might be because the room is under the wood roof structure so I found that there is lots of dust in this room and thus made myself and my daughter sneezing all the time.
