About Motel 6 Brand Hotels

Owned and founded by two local building contractors, Motel 6 first opened in Santa Barbara, California. Lead by partners Paul Greene and William Becker, the hotel cleverly took its name from the initial room rate per night the hotel charged during its first operation, $6. Fifty years later, Motel 6 has over 1,300 branches across Canada and the United States.

 

Becker and Greene wanted to provide a low-cost hotel that could serve as an alternative to the major hotel brands during the 1960’s, such as Holiday Inn. The partners specialized in low-cost housing and were able to create a hotel plan that would compete with the quality and the price of the current hotels America had during that era. Motel 6 took two years of conceptualization to be able to cut costs in areas possible. The effort these founders invested in Motel 6 paid off. This “no-frills” hotel materialized into one of the biggest hotel accommodations available in America.

 

Unique to the Motel 6 brand, there was no onsite restaurant available in the first hotel launches in 1962. Up to this day, most of the Motel 6 branches have no on-site dining available, but with plenty of restaurants located nearby.

    I would not recommend this...

    Pros: Fort bragg is Amazing
    Cons: The room was very dirty and had a bad smell. Walls were patched up and not painted the bed had plywood under one of the broken bed legs. A plywood door stop with no paint. We got a refund and stayed somewhere else.

    Uncomfortable Stay

    Pros: The location of the Motel is centralized, close to shopping, beach, and restaurants. I had appointments in town. Easy to ride the Senior Bus
    Cons: My Room had an infestation of bed bugs and ants. I was covered in bites. The room I was moved to had roaches. I am very sad and disappointed because I don't think I am going to be compensated. Also the WIFI may as well be non-existent. I had to hot spot my tablet to my phone's Internet. And out of 3 rooms I stayed in the TV's and their remotes were so screwed up. Good water pressure though. I did enjoy taking a shower. The whole Motel is in disrepair. Most of the rooms have stains and need a lot of work. Sometimes the bedding looked soiled and stained and I had to ask to have it replaced. Housekeeping is very slow to respond to service.

    Good for an overnight stop.

    Pros: Easy access just off main thoroughfare on south end of town. Parking in front of the room. Reasonable rates.
    Cons: An older property that is still functional, but is in need of upgrading. Amenities (pool) not available under repair.

    Pros: The price is right and the rooms were much better on the inside than outside.
    Cons: It was definitely not in good repair on the outside. The bathroom in the room was clean, but definitely dated.

    Pros: I liked that I didn't have to plunge my own toilet like I did last year when I stayed at This Motel 6
    Cons: I didn't like to come back to the motel yesterday to see a man trying to break into the room next to our room just to find out when checking out that they are aware of the gentleman he is squatting. I didn't appreciate them putting us in the room knowing about this gentleman when I have my 3 year old son with me.

    Pros: Absolutely nothing.
    Cons: 1. We were put into a room with broken tile in the shower. Moved to a second room that had a completely broken bed. Then had to be moved to a third room. 2. All 3 rooms were dirty, dingy and had ants in them. 3. At 8PM after being in our 3rd room and attempting to wind down the front office gave away our room to other guests and we were greeted by strangers walking into our room. That was fun. 4. Apparently they rent this place out for events and had a very loud obnoxious party going on the second night of our stay which went until about 130AM. 5. I don't know if it is normal but there were a lot of people in the parking lot drinking, openly doing drugs and I even was followed to my room (mind you I am clearly pregnant) I brought my concerns to the hotel staff who stated they would call the police on an individual. The next morning the same individual followed myself and my 5 year old to my car. 6. The rooms do not have blow dryers, coffee makers or fridges as advertised so do not trust what they say will be in your room. Overall, if you like to be in an unsafe, dirty environment this place is for you. Other than that I would not ever recommend it. Pay the extra money and stay elsewhere.
