About Motel 6 Brand Hotels

Owned and founded by two local building contractors, Motel 6 first opened in Santa Barbara, California. Lead by partners Paul Greene and William Becker, the hotel cleverly took its name from the initial room rate per night the hotel charged during its first operation, $6. Fifty years later, Motel 6 has over 1,300 branches across Canada and the United States.

 

Becker and Greene wanted to provide a low-cost hotel that could serve as an alternative to the major hotel brands during the 1960’s, such as Holiday Inn. The partners specialized in low-cost housing and were able to create a hotel plan that would compete with the quality and the price of the current hotels America had during that era. Motel 6 took two years of conceptualization to be able to cut costs in areas possible. The effort these founders invested in Motel 6 paid off. This “no-frills” hotel materialized into one of the biggest hotel accommodations available in America.

 

Unique to the Motel 6 brand, there was no onsite restaurant available in the first hotel launches in 1962. Up to this day, most of the Motel 6 branches have no on-site dining available, but with plenty of restaurants located nearby.

    Pros: Great place to stay for ecploring Starship. Clean, friendly staff and an invoice for a Booking.com reservation is not regular in US!!!! Wifi connection could be better and faster. Also brainless pickup driver could turn off theiir historic exauster at night. Texas is now Cybertruck country . They are more silent.

    Disgusting place with no concern...

    Pros: The location was convenient for me.
    Cons: Where to begin ? This was honestly the worst hotel room I slept in. The parking lot, the building, and practically everything was in disrepair. Entering the room, I could smell cigarettes (even though this was a nonsmoking room). There were ashes in the sink, burn marks on the vanity and tub, and even a burn hole in the bedspread. This place was gross! When I moved the shower curtain, cockroaches scattered. There was a gap under the main entrance door and roaches were freely wandering in and out. The bed made a lot of noise. The sheets felt and smelled unclean. The floor felt greasy. The towels had dirt and bad smells on them. Everything was broken - even the little plastic trash can was cracked. I’ve never seen a hotel where the level of concern was this low. It’s apparent that no one gives a single care about anything. I’m hindsight, I should have demanded something better and I should have not slept here. I felt like I had lowered my personal standards to accept it , but it’s not my style to complain. I was exhausted and I needed the rest - didn’t feel like voicing my complaints that night. I don’t think they could have offered any upgrades considering the look of the whole place. As I said , this was easily the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Seriously.

    Cons: The beds were terrible, no soap in the hotel room, dirty surfaces in hotel, we woke up with a mystery bug in our bed. And a rat in the bathroom

    Cons: Smelled like mold humidity was bad floor sliperry blankets slight black like mold look to it no complimentary shampoo only a small bar soap door wouldnt close all the way just not what i expected

    Disappointing

    Pros: Staff was very helpful. Location was great.
    Cons: The bathrooms need to be updated. The tub and toilet were clean but looked filthy. Sink did not drain well and neither did the tub.
