Interesting and characterful small boutique hotel with great vibe in the Brasil district.

Pros: Beautifully restored historic building; elegant and characterful/ Designed by an architect, and later restored by an architect. Garden full of mature trees, with evening lighting - a green oasis in the city. Comfortable bed and spacious room. Lovely relaxing library. Staff extremely welcoming and helpful. Set back from the road, and felt safe with security gate. Good breakfast. Convenient for nearby restaurants - we ate at Las Vacas Gordas and La Martina - both very good.

Cons: Rooms at the front suffer from traffic noise due to the original windows, but fine with earplugs. Suggest requesting a room at the back. Bathroom a little small. Not a problem for us, but be aware that there are potentially two flights of stairs depending on room location and no lift, though there is a small one to move luggage.

Previously (2019) my partner and I stayed at Matildas Hotel Boutique. Loved it 2nd visit as well!

Pros: The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming on arrival. They helped with organising taxis, checking flights, and supporting me when I suddenly realised that my flight was leaving one day earlier than I thought! Lovely elegant hotel and facilities to enjoy including the tranquil garden. Previously (2019) my partner and I stayed at Matildas Hotel Boutique. On a second visit, with my two colleagues, I was not disappointed at all. Managed to enjoy the garden before racing off to the airport. Sorry no time for breakfast but my colleagues certainly enjoyed there's. It is an easy walk to the Plaza des Armas and there are good cafes in the neighbourhood. Very safe.

Pros: The staff are very friendly and willing to help out with anything they can, including arranging airport transfers. The breakfast was a buffet with a good variety and excellent coffee. The rooms are beautifully furnished and comfortable.

Cons: The road at the front is very noisy due to traffic. We had to move rooms because of this, however you can still hear noise from some bars or restaurants on the back, playing music until late into the evening (it might be a nearby karaoke bar but not entirely sure). Earplugs could just about block it out though so I recommend taking some in case you are a light sleeper.

I had a good stay and would be pleased to come back to Matildas, particularly during the warm season

Pros: I have appreciated the architecture and atmosphere of this hotel as opposed to the "boring" international hotels. The room was nice, clean and large, as well as the bathroom. The personnel very friendly and helpful. The location is very interesting and liveful with plenty of bars and restaurants just around the corner at walking distance.

Cons: I did not expect the weather to be so cold in this period and often needed to use the air conditioner as heating system. I like soft boiled eggs, that are quite easy to prepare and not only the available scrambled and fried eggs.

Wont stay here again due to location

Pros: Its a beautiful hotel, breakfast is nice. However, the location is not convenient or feel safe at night time as there are no other businesses around

Pros: The team members were very welcoming and did all they could to answer queries and to make our stay comfortable, easy and enjoyable. They even posted our postcards for us after we left as time ran out on us. The hotel is a truly beautiful period house. The team has retained as much of its original charm and beauty as possible and they are clearly creating a special place. There is also a pleasant garden at the rear with mature trees. Breakfast, which is good, is taken in a room on the ground floor or in the garden. There is a lounge with a good selection of books. The hotel is near public transport links and there are good local restaurants within walking distance. It is not far from the airport. The area - Brasil - is in the process of being regenerated after some years so it is still a mix of the old and the new which may not suit some people.

Cons: There is no lift. We understand fully why the team decided not to add a lift to this period property and there is a lift for your luggage. However, those with mobility issues should note that there is no lift for people and that guests must use the (gorgeous) staircase.
