Great hotel in a central yet quiet location

Pros: Personally, this hotel was right up my alley. I really like these older type of hotels and it was well-maintained.. a mixture of old style with some upgrades and renovations. I, for one, love the Yugoslav vibe that this hotel still has. It allows for some character while also not being expensive. Everything most people could want is available here - clean, safe rooms along with a nice lobby and dining room. There are plenty of hotels in Zagreb now where you can pay twice the price if you prefer a more modern experience for the short time you're there.

Cons: I thought, given the reviews, that this hotel would not be a good place at which to stay. I was wrong. I spent alot of time reading the reviews and then decided to take a chance. I can assure you that in the vast majority of the cases, there are low scores for this establishment simply because people today now want modern luxury, and have therefore penalized this hotel for being a bit older. Aside from the beds not being very comfortable, everything else was satisfactory. The hotel is still quite charming with a large lobby area. It's definitely a bargain for anyone not wanting to always spend alot on hotel rooms every night.

Cons: SAFETY LACKING. SOMEBODY TRIED TO UNLOCK MY DOOR AND I COULD SEE THE LOCK HANDLE GOING UP AND DOWN FROM WITHIN THE ROOM. I COMPLAINED TO RECEPTION TO SHOW CCTV. REPLY - NO CCTV. NO EXTRA STAFF FOR HELP. FOR ALMOST 20 MINUTES SOMEBODY KNOCKED MY DOOR AND WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR, THEREWAS NOBODY. THE FOURTH TIME I OPENED THE DOOR AND I SAW A MAN GOING TOWARDS LIFT WHICH WAS ONLY 10 - 15 FT. AWAY. I SAW HIS FACE. AGAIN I COMPLAINED TO RECEPTION AND TOLD HIM I SAW HIS FACE AND I CAN RECOGNIZE. RECEPTION SAID THAT MAN IS SITTING IN FRONT OF HIM. I WENT TO RECEPTION AND RECOGNIZED THE MAN. I QUESTIONED THE RECEPTIONIST, HOW DID HE KNOW, HE WAS THE SAME MAN? WHY TRYING TO UNLOCK MY ROOM AND THEN 3 TIMES AFTER THAT? SOMETHING FISHY?

Cons: Everything. The photos in booking.com is very deceiving as the hotel is old and very run down. Carpets in foyer is yellow. The staff were very unfriendly and unhelpful. Clearly their departments work in silos as we asked for an iron at the from desk and was told we need to speak to house cleaning. The shower facilities seriously needs a revamp and I dont understand how elderly people use the shower. Wouldnt recommend this hotel.

Very enjoyable dinner, bed and breakfast in Zagreb.

Pros: Charming receptionist made for a warm welcome. Comfortable bed and exceptional service in the dining room. Advice on local specialities and wine contributed to a very enjoyable meal. Advice on public transport from night porter made for a very efficient start to my sightseeing day in Zagreb.
