About Howard Johnson By Wyndham Brand Hotels

Howard Johnson, founded by Howard Deering Johnson, is an American hotel chain and motels located mainly all over Canada and United States. Apart from hotels, Howard Johnson was once a chain of restaurants for more than 90 years. After his success in the restaurant business, Johnson decided to venture in the hotel industry. Howard Johnson motels and hotels are currently part of Wyndham Worldwide.

It was in 1954 that the very first Howard Johnson’s motor lodge was opened. The first branch was located in Savannah, Georgia. Over the years their restaurant business and motels have grown drastically. By 1961, they already have 605 restaurants wherein in 265 of them was company owned and the rest was franchised. Their Howard Johnson’s motor lodges had also been franchised in The Bahamas and in 32 states.

Today, Howard Johnson is operated by Wyndham under a number of tiers based on services offered, amenities and price. When Wyndham took over some of their hotel, rooms were renovated providing guests with a more comfortable stay. They also have hotels that are pet-friendly and has large swimming pools for a morning or afternoon dip. Howard Johnson offers discount to their guests like auto club member discount, and save at least 15% if you book early.

    They need to have security...

    Pros: Breakfast was decent.
    Cons: There were alot of "undesirable' people hanging outside the hotel and wandering the halls. Two people were smoking "something", not sure if it was Crack or pot. Right outside the entrance and then I saw them walking down the hall of the hotel on my floor. The female was so out of it she couldn't walk, the male was holding her up. I informed front desk staff but they didn't do anything about it. The next day, a female staff member, I think maybe a supervisor, was standing in the vestibule looking at these people and I heard them discussing about them, however she never approached them, she just got inside her car and drove off. I felt very unsafe

    Pros: The room was spacious and clean. The bed was soft and very comfortable to sleep in.
    Cons: The TV quality was bad. The rooms phone wasn't connected. The number of towels available in the room wasn't enough. 1 set in a king-size room.

    Pros: The room was spacious.
    Cons: The fact that renovations were currently happening at 7 am roughly all I could hear were work crews banging stuff in the room next to us and above us. It was very in professional. The clerk should have moved us to an area they weren’t working in, or paid closer attention to what rooms wouldn’t have a noise issue. At one point, someone randomly opened the door to our room at like 7:30 am. My girlfriend was startled and I hopped out of bed wondering what was going on.

    Pros: When I went in I was an overbooking, got relocated no problem. Tried to rebook for a week later and the hotel says I did something wrong and I can not come back. Manager of hotel would not even speak to me on the phone.

    Would stay again, but not...

    Pros: Bed was exceedingly comfortable, and great to have a breakfast bar. Bathroom was well kept, and endless hot water for tub or shower.
    Cons: I would liked to have had a larger window and decent curtains. The glass was whited out and the blind didn’t work.
