A short but memorable stay. Great older style hotel with clean and facilities and friendly staff.

Pros: Staff are very nice. The facilities, location and price are commensurate with the price.

Cons: On arrival we were shown to what is probably the worst room in the hotel within the block which has not been refurbished - that would be the small terrace with the brown tilled floor on the ground floor as shown on the image. We refused the room and we were immediately taken back to reception (this obviously happens a lot) and we were then given a Master Suite on the 3rd floor in a different block - see other photo. I should mention that a Master Suite is what we had booked! The attempt by the NYX to offload its non-refurbished rooms is disingenuous and they should simply close the block and get on with the refurbishment. I see from other comments that this 'mix-up' in rooms happens often; there are no images of these very dated rooms on their website and there should be. Booking a hotel room should not be a lottery. This underhand behaviour by the front desk rather sullied our five day stay at the NYX. Not kind to staff! What a load of nonsense, we simply said we did not wish to wear the wristbands - we are not children; nevertheless, we kept them our persons at all times and we were certainly not unpleasant to the front desk - if anything they were generally disinterested in guests and acted as though they were doing us a favour by changing our room. We simply refute that the room we were first shown was a Master Suite, and your response is facile. We challenge you to post the images of these sub-standard rooms on your website so that guest can decide, and we note with interest that you make no comment on this core element in our review. The continued the lack of any images for your non-refurbished rooms says it all.

It was my fist time having booked this kind of vacation package. Not my kind of travel.

Pros: The room was nice but nothing out of the ordinary. The view of the bay and busy highway with a panorama of a row of hotels in all directions is the nature of the Zona Hotelera. Certainly not a paradise. The beach with a white sand is nice, as I expected; the sea with powerful waves is impressive, alas with knee-high depth useless for swimming. The breakfast is excellent, the buffet selection lavish.

Cons: If all you want is to eat and lie in the sun, this is the place to do it. While the cultural attractions the likes of Chichen-Itza and Coba are relatively nearby, and there are countless operators that will take you there, they are really too far and it's hardly worth the time in traffic necessary to get there, and then having to admire the Maya monuments following a herd of never-ending procession of tourists disembarking constantly arriving tour buses bringing yet more tourists.

Pros: The place is awesome, we got upgraded to a beachfront view room so we were so happy. The staff are all nice and helpful. The food and service in the restaurant is superb. Overall an excellent experience!

Cons: Our first room wasnt good, they had a dehumidifier to tackle the smell of mould which wasnt great. Once we moved rooms it was great. The food at the beach bar was hit and miss. The constant entertainment at the pool was a bit much for us

Cons: Hotel is very dated. Decor looks like a cheap hotel not 4 stars. Mattress too soft. Front desk called and woke us up at 8:30 am on Saturday for no apparent reason other than to tell us we could go for our free breakfast which was already explained at check in

Cons: Literal structure is falling apart has drywall repairs on the ceiling not even painted. Has mold the on ceilings by the bar. Tile on the floors are all cracked and missing pieces on the corners of the tile but I guess they dont care cuz theyre small pieces on the corners of the square tiles? Carpet is full of stains. Lobby is super small cant even have more than a couple people checking in before it gets full in there. The Furniture they have for the lobby is ugly outdated and nasty, it looks like they dont even clean it. The pool is super small , there are only like 15 to 20 chair beds to lounge on but good luck waking up at 6 to get there at 7 and trying to get one. And theres nothing else to sit on to be by the pool. They have a lot of chairs on the beach but the beach is super small measure in width like 20 meters so theres like 60 chairs super crammed up together barely any room for walking. Also all of them have a towel on them a theyre all taken so you end up having nowhere to sit it by the pool or the beach.

Cons: Being vegetarians, would be nice to have more meat and fish free meals. Would also be very appreciated if there were some healthy snacks through the day, like fruit, which could only be found at breakfast.
