Beautiful historic hotel near Grand Plaza, nice roof space

Pros: Fantastic location just by the Grand Plaza, beautiful hacienda style and center courtyard, drinking water available to refill reusable bottles, A/C in our room was very cold. Beds were comfy.

Cons: A/C unit located above bed, and dripped occasionally onto the pillows - not a big deal.

We had a fantastic time in Merida. Hotel Caribe is in an excellent position, but needs an update.

Pros: Location and staff were brilliant. The bedding and towels were changed every day. Fresh bottles of water in the room everyday. Staff were always friendly.

Cons: Pool side sunbeds were not great. There was only 4 and 1 was cracked in the center and they were all mixed. Would be nice to have a bar.

Pros: The location on Hidalgo Plaza is awesome. The staff is pleasant and helpful. The pool was refreshing and available until 10PM.

We found the location was great but it was sad to see such a lovely looking old colonial hotel going downhill.

Pros: The location

Cons: The hotel badly needed TLC and had been poorly maintained. Some days the water wasnt warm enough to shower. We tried it at various times during the day and eventually found that our best chance of a shower was around 5. Not sure why. In the mornings there was a lot of noise coming in through the bathroom window, which we thought was from the exhaust fan in the kitchen. The rooms were also very small. We found the front desk staff very grumpy but the cleaning staff were cheerful.

I do not recommend. It's worth choosing something different.

Pros: Very good location. Someday the facility may be great. Definitely high potential of the building.

Cons: Not as good as it could be. It definitely needs to be refurbished. I love hotels which are a bit old and have charm of not being perfect. It's not that case. This one is just underfunded and neglected. In terms of staff and service, most people acted like they didn't want to work. Only the gentleman with whom I went to the parking lot was nice and smiling. However, the lady at the evening reception is the worst example of an extremely rude approach to customers. So that pushed the rating towards negative. The only such facility during my holidays in Mexico. A country where everyone surprised me with kindness, smiles and a nice atmosphere. Even the police who extorted the bribe from me were friendly and smiling. Not like the service of this hotel.

Superb

Pros: Hotel Caribe is a refuge in a very touristy area in Merida. We loved sitting in the courtyard and the views from the pool of the Cathedrals and bell towers at night were stunning. Good breakfasts in the courtyard. Restaurants and plazas within a block. Would definitely go again.

Cons: Can't think of anything- it was our refuge in a large city.

Parking was great and the pool was very nice but with a lack of hot water was a problem

Pros: The location was great, staff were nice and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. The pool was very nice.

Cons: We didn't have hot water for 4 of the 5 nights. Hotel did not even offer a small refund. Room was a little small and the mosquitoes where terrible. Not enough seating at the pool and several broken chairs.
