    Pros: Beautiful hotel, lovely staff, excellent evening meal and breakfast. We visited the Abbey, Mellerstain House, and Smailholm Tower. Shall be back.

    After seeing the website, I was incredibly disappointed that reality did not match my expectations.

    Pros: The bed was comfy. The location was beautiful and from the outside the hotel looked lovely. There was a lot of hot water. The staff were pleasant.
    Cons: The room was outdated and ugly. There were scant and shoddy toiletries in the room. The toilet paper was nasty and cheap. There were insufficient cups and biscuits in the room for the number of people booked in. I booked a meal in the restaurant but we could only dine in the bar which was tatty, lacked atmosphere and was full of smelly, barking dogs. The food was okay but not nice enough to compensate. Breakfast was fairly tasteless and the ingredients seemed of poor quality.
