Montrose: Rural Town Full of History
Montrose, Pennsylvania is part of Susquehanna and it is the main seat for this county. It is about 37 miles from Scranton which is a popular city in Pennsylvania. The town was founded in 1812 and the first settlers were the family of Sir Peter Warren who is part of England’s Royal Fleet. Because of the gratitude of American soldiers, he was given a piece of land. The first post office was built in 1813. The word Mont means mountain and Rose is taken from Dr. L Rose who is a prominent citizen of the town. Because of the town’s location, Montrose has become the center of the natural gas industry in the state.
Best Time to Visit
The oldest festival celebrated in town is the Blueberry Festival which is held every August. This is said to be the busiest time for Montrose. Thousands of people flock the area to enjoy blueberries. Expect a busy Montrose, Pennsylvania hotels. Weather wise, September to October are the best months.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Salt Springs State Park is one of the most notable attractions in the county. It is the home of hemlock trees which is over 500 years old. They are considered the largest trees in town. When visiting the town of Montrose, the Susquehanna County Historical Society shouldn’t be missed. Accommodations will not be a problem while in Montrose. There are quite a number of hotels in the area like Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Gibson is considered a 4-star hotel. There is also a high end luxury hotel which is the Residence Inn By Marriott Binghamton University. For those with a budget, the Holiday Inn Binghamton - Downtown (Hawley St.) is highly recommended.
