Independence, Louisiana is one of the towns located in Tangipahoa Parish. The area was originally known as Uncle Sam and later on became an independent town in the early 20th century due to the efforts of Harry D. Wilson, State Representative during that period. Most of the residents are composed of Italian-American making the Sicilian heritage inspired festivals even more authentic and unique. Independence is also often called as Little Italy since the beginning of expatriation in the region in the early 19th century.

Independence Louisiana hotels are at its most affordable during the months of December and January. The city is calmer and you do not need to worry about a huge crowd. The Independence Sicilian Heritage Festival is one of the fun and delicious events in the city featuring meatball-throwing and spaghetti cook offs.

The Independence Italian Cultural Museum located in the Old Catholic Church is home to the ways, religions and everything Sicilian about the region. A family-owned hotel in the area tourists can enjoy while in Independence is the Historic Michabelle Inn. This building was renovated 1907 Greek mansion located near the Safari Quest Family Fun Center. The Courtyard by Marriott Hammond is another fun and affordable accommodation to choose. It is located near shops and restaurants and the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts. These laid back destinations are close to the airport as well as the Louisiana Children's Discovery Center.
