World on a Budget: Las Vegas

Showgirls, ostentatious performances, high-rollers and obscene amounts of money are the cliché “Just Vegas” things we’ve come to know. You’ll be happy to know that you don’t need to “make it rain” as the big spenders say, to have the best time in the City of Sin. So if you want to maximize your Las Vegas experience without going over the top, you’ve come to the right place.

Sightsee All-You-Can

Fountains and light exhibitions showcase the grandiosity of Las Vegas. Scattered all over the city are some of the most picturesque fountain shows ever to appear in travelogues and promotional materials about Las Vegas. Romance your senses and experience the iconic fountains of the Bellagio daily in scheduled exhibitions. Watch the choreographed dynamics of water, lights and, music – all moving in one seamless feast while you relax and watch in wonder.

You’ll hear heart-pounding volcanic eruptions. No, it’s not the end of the world! Look to the front yard of The Mirage and witness explosions and more fireballs than ever before. The exhibition recently underwent two major renovations, its enhancements increased significantly over the years to highlight more of its showmanship. It’s definitely a mind-blowing 10-minute exhibition on weekends.

Something for your Sweet Tooth

Head down to the world of old childhood favorite treats. Find yourself cruising on the strip? Visit M&M’s World and see for yourself why it has become a household name from the four-level monument packed with M&M’s history. Find and purchase memorabilia on the first floor, watch a short animated film inside the store’s own 3D movie theatre, and take a photo with a replica of the M&M’s race car driven in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. You could also customize an M&M through their personalized printer! Munch on that!

Haven’t had enough? Just across the street is the Hershey’s Chocolate World claiming to be “The Sweetest Store on the Las Vegas Strip”, but we’ll let you be the judge. The highlighted feature of the store is the Statue of Liberty made out of 800 lbs of Hershey’s chocolate. Aside from the usual merchandise available, guests can also take part in other in-store attractions, say, star in your own Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups TV Ad! Or personalize your own chocolate bar. Indeed, it’s a world-full of chocolate in Viva Las Vegas!

Stop and Stare at the Live Performances

Arguably the city that thrives in live acts, flamboyant entertainers, and world-class performances brought to you by the likes of Cirque du Soleil and Céline Dion, you cannot help but come across mini free performances like these at the streets, walkways, and pavilions all over the city. As such, one needs to do the Fremont Street Experience, it’s a mall and an attraction all rolled into one. Located in downtown Las Vegas, this hot spot is four blocks in length with free concerts usually held at the three stages available at the complex. You’ll surely have ‘one-stop-shop’ area at your disposal.

With the dry Vegas heat, you will need a place to cool down. Relax in aquatic wonder at The Aquarium at The Silverton Hotel. Aside from the usual sharks and stingrays, you’ll find mythical creatures as well, for they have mermaids! But these darlings are not your typical pretty faces swimming around, they come from different performance backgrounds like synchronized swimming to ballet, and they’re scuba-certified as well. How they manage to smile while under water and seemingly appear flawless is still a mystery.

Soak in the Desert Heat

Visit the wildlife and ecology center just 30 minutes away from Downtown Las Vegas. The Clark County Wetlands Park houses hundreds of species of plants and animals by providing them with lush habitats. They also provide designated areas for picnics and nature trails for bike rides.

An attractive six-acre outdoor space is all you need to concentrate on for your dining and entertainment needs. The Park, situated between Monte Carlo Resort and Casino & New York, New York Hotel and Casino, offers a wide array of available dining spots whatever your taste is. Shaded areas resembling neon blooms when lit at night are available for visitors’ convenience, hundreds of fully grown trees are scattered all throughout the park with two 100-foot-long waterfall to deflect the heat.

Still can’t believe you’re in Las Vegas?

Better believe it! Shell out some extra bucks in the casinos if you’re feeling adventurous enough. A friendly tip, just remember to spend within your limit, splurge on those that will leave you with happy and lasting memories instead.

See! What happens in Vegas doesn’t necessarily need to stay in Vegas.
