In 1985, MDG was converted into a military-civilian mixed airport and became the second civil airport in Heilongjiang Province. In 2017, it was officially renamed to Mudanjiang Hailang International Airport.

Over 900,000 passengers used the airport and there were more than 7,000 aircraft movements in 2018. The airport’s services spans to the cities of Mudanjiang and Hailin.
