Also referred to as Farranfore Airport, the Kerry Airport is a regional airport, which goes by the ICAO code of EIKY and IATA code of KIR. It is currently operated by the Kerry Airport plc and can be found in the village of Farranfore, seven nautical miles from the town of Killarney, Ireland, in County Kerry. Kerry Airport handles the passenger traffic from the cities in the said county, which amounted to no less than 335,000 passengers in 2017.

KIR-Kerry Airport was initially opened as a public limited company in mid-1968. However, it wasn’t until the following year when the airport developed a runway, spanning to a length of 1,090 meters and a width of 23 meters. The airstrip underwent two significant developments as it was expanded to 1,239 meters by 30 meters in 1989 and to 2,000 meters by 45 meters in May 1994. During the early years of the airport, it only handled light private aircraft and some charter and cargo flights. Its first-ever scheduled flight service was in 1979, served by the airline, Aer Arann. Today, two airlines provide flights to and from Kerry Airport. From the airfield, you can easily reach the towns of Glenflesk, and Collnagarrahy.
