The Seville Airport, code SVQ, is a public international airport owned and operated by ENAIRE. It is the main airport catering to Andalusia, Spain. In 2017, the airport handled 5.1 million passengers, making it one of the busiest airports in Spain. Seville has had a long history of aviation activities. In 1915, the Military Aeronautical Society constructed an aerodome in the area for training future pilots. By 1919 onwards, commercial flights began to travel between Seville and Madrid. In 1930, this flight path reached further out to the Canary Islands. Seville Airport catered to African soldiers during the Spanish Civil War. Incidents experienced by the airport included a near crash by a Vueling Airbus and a fatal crash in 2015 by an Airbus A400M cargo plane.
