Pros: the casitas area is beautiful, a-lot of space and a good amount of restaurants. Leo the bellman gave us the ins and outs of the resort and Ramon our pool man was amazing!

Cons: Not enough shuttle golf carts and not enough chairs by the pools. If you are looking for a beach experience, this may not be the resort you want.

The El Dorado has some fabulous attributes but fell a bit short of expectations for our stay.

Pros: There are some really lovely features to this property. The Casitas where we stayed are arranged in small groups each around its own pool. This keeps it having a smaller more private vibe rather than a big hotel/resort vibe. The rooms are charming in a old school Mexican way. Super high exposed ceilings, thatched roofs, great patios with Bali beds and dining tables, etc. The rooms have outdoor showers which are great! (in addition to a nicely equipped full indoor bathroom) The beach is groomed daily and there are lots of chairs, Bali beds and spots to sit and take in the view. The pools are kept immaculately clean. The saltwater pool is fabulous! Its a natural pool meaning that the ocean actually enters and exists through pipes so there are a few small fish, etc. It was a great way to dip in while protected from the surf on rough days. The 24 hour room service was handy and we used it almost daily for breakfast. We were able to book excursions at the resort through Loomis Travel and enjoyed all of the adventures! Everything felt very safe and mostly well organized although our transportation was late for each trip off of the resort. The staff throughout the property are SOOO friendly and happy to help with whatever needed. Very attentive! The atmosphere at the Casitas is very relaxed and low key. If you need a bit more action, a stroll to the main resort pool provides a livelier group. There is something for everyone here!

Cons: The beach here isnt swimmable. Its beautiful white sand but mostly rocks and coral as soon as you step in. The biggest bummer was the hundreds of HUGE concrete blocks along the entire shoreline set to protect the beach from erosion. I fully understand their purpose but they make swiping impossible and they are an eyesore. We had issues with our room. LOTS of issues. Things got off to a rough start when we arrived and were told that our confirmed upgrade to a swim up suite wouldnt actually be ready until the third day of our stay. This meant on day three packing up and being out of our room by 11:00 and storing our luggage until the new room was ready at 3:00. A pretty big hassle that left us feeling like we lost a day of our Vacation. About that upgrade . The new room was a lemon! We had issues that started on the first day and then carried on the rest of our stay. The issues included the in room safe not functioning, AC not working properly, phone not working, BIG water leak under one of the sinks, outdoor shower head shot water only at wall and not on humans, TV died, etc. We literally had repair people in the room almost daily. The absolute worst was on about day 8 when the room next door had a main water line break. THIS involved lots of workers banging- talking- more banking- cutting into the side of the building with power tools- more banging- etc. This went on for a few days first at night then early in the morning. all hours really. I get it, it was an emergency but Im on vacation and the lack of sleep was not appreciated. This whole issue left us without hot water for 2 days and with NO water on a morning when we were trying to get ready for an all day excursion. We were brushing our teeth and washing our faces with bottles of water. I felt like I was camping. For the first few issues we just rolled with it.

Pros: Food was good, but not many choices after 8pm. Hospitality staff super friendly and helpful.

Cons: The concierge never answered the phone when called. All different times of the day. So we could never make dinner reservations. Called the front desk multiple times and was transferred, however the person we were transferred to didnt know how to book reservations for us and never got back or followed up with us. They had the adult kids 2 rooms and names, but had zero record of my husband and I when we arrived. Not even his name. Husband paid for everything with his credit card. Glad I brought printed confirmation paperwork to show them. So we did not have a room upon arrival and they had no record of us coming. We were put in a room, then upgraded and moved to a different room the same night. However, we did not get the honeymoon suite....which was paid for in full...in advance. Not worth the $10,000 + . Our tub leaked all over the floor and was running under the bed. Only got to use that once. Not a big deal, but the alarm clock didn't work at all and the tv kept asking to connect to a device, every couple of minutes. Went into settings and disabled this, yet it kept doing it regardless. Pool area and swim up bar closed super early. Like 5pm. Lots of ants in the room, even in the bed and on the bedside tables. Excursions were easy to book with the travel office. They explained things very well.

Cons: Not a true all inclusive. Everything had additional charges and fees. They have a sushi restaurant but any sake or Japanese beer was extra ($10/beer). Could not get a bottle of Champaign or wine to the room without an extra charge (over $100 for a cheap $15 bottle). You needed a reservation for all dinner restaurants or you were stuck ordering room service which was very limited and the menu did not change. Extra charge for Fuentes and candle light dinner which were the 'good" restaurants; additional 100+ for each meal Online it states excursions such as snorkeling and paddle boarding are included except the beach isn't swimmable and to get shuttled anywhere it was extra. The beach is ugly and unsightly as there's large concrete blocks to create a barrier of sorts. The property is large but they have golf carts you can get a ride on except they are far and few during the week. Our initial room was not available upon arrival stating that there was a water leak so we got downgraded and given a credit to use at the resort (we booked the Fuentes and candle light dinner with it...make sure you write exactly what they offer and sign it because at check out they will try to sneak in a charge). Come to find out our neighbors for our original room stated that the room was fine they had a large party there the night before (aka double booked reservations). I would have preferred honesty instead. The room they put us in for the night had an ac unit that leaked all over the floor. You are spending a small fortune and everyone we spoke to was disappointed. We met couples that stated they were here years ago and everything was included (bottles to the room, Fuentes restaurant etc). There are a lot of better options for the money you are paying. Your Casita pool won't be used as it barely gets sun and it will be cold. Overall I wouldn't come back nor would I recommend.

Pros: We loved the variety and location of the pools. Each pool offered its own vibe and you can move to the vibe you want. Activities were fun and the staff was friendly and engaging. All of the food offerings were great!

Cons: The stairs up to our room were a little uneven and could be improved (you can resolve this with a main level room). The room itself could be updated, specifically the hot tub and lighting.

Cons: There was a cockroach crawling in our bed. Ants and spiders crawling thoughout the room. They different need someone to come in and spray the room. Its hard to sleep after youve seen a roach crawling in your bed. This and the wifi didnt work was my only 2 disappointments. Everything else was great!!!!
