Independence day is one of America’s favorite holidays. It is right in the middle of summer so families can take a weekend getaway that is perfect for summer memories. People spend the day grilling burgers and hot dogs and laughing together anticipating the firework show that makes one feel so proud to be American. For a 4th of July weekend that is sure to go boom celebrate America’s birthday in an unfamiliar city and witness a firework show that is new. 

This Fourth of July, why not go back to where it all started? The nation’s first capital celebrates Independence Day in a major way! Take a step back in time with a visit to historical sites like the National Archives museum to see The Declaration of Independence and the Independence National Historical Park to see the iconic Liberty Bell. The party  gets started early in Philadelphia, so get to Philly early for The Wawa Welcome America Party.  This six day citywide free event calendar is full of concerts, block parties, movie nights, and of course fireworks. This year’s performers include top artist like Jennifer Hudson and Megan Trainer. The epic firework show will be accompanied by a live performance of the United States Army Field Band. Your Philadelphia 4th getaway will have Red, white and blue  coursing through your veins. 

Nothing will put you in the Independence Day spirit more than visiting some of our nation’s most important monuments. Washington D.C.’s National Independence Day Parade is the largest of its kind. If you’re a fan of live performances head to Constitution Avenue. This destination is a perfect destination for history buffs. Join the fun with  a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence by reenactors portraying the Founding Fathers and other historical figures of the time. If reenactments aren’t for you, then then yell “Play Ball” and chomp into a Hot dog at a Baseball game. The Washington Nationals are playing the Miami Marlins this independence day at Nationals Park. For the ultimate Fireworks show head to the National Mall where the city puts on a free concert. Celebrating America in the most American City will sure be unforgettable!

If you love fireworks for your Fourth of July celebrations, then adventure to the city of San Francisco where they do it up BIG. San Francisco puts on two firework displays to ensure all visitors have a perfect view! You can even opt for a  Fourth of July Firework Cruise and be right on the bay for the display. The tours usually last for two and a half hours and some offer themes like the Great Gatsby. The iconic Pier 39 is another hot-spot for 4th July celebrations, featuring everything from live entertainment, great food and fun for the whole family.

Celebrate Independence day in the mile high city! Denver starts their 4th party early with their Independence Eve free event, featuring a concert light show and pre-fourth fireworks. Continue the fun into the next day and Head to DICK’S Sporting Goods Park for their 24th Annual 4th Fest. You can also enjoy America’s past time sport with and see the Colorado Rapids versus the New England Revolution at 7:00 PM. After the game you can watch the largest  fireworks show in Colorado from the field. If you are more of a thrill seeker then enjoy the rides at Elitch Gardens, Denver’s local theme park, and see their firework spectacle at night. There’s something for everyone in Denver this 4th of July.
