The Hamburg Airport is known as the fifth-busiest commercial airport of Germany. Its airport code, HAM, stands for its city name Hamburg. The airport was opened in 1911 that makes it the oldest airport still in operation. Beginning in 1945, it got its present name. In the early 1990, the airport started to have an extensive modernization process. As of 2018, the airport has handled 156,388 aircraft movements and 17,231,687 passengers.
