    Strategic location to stay while exploring the city and visiting to Taroko National Park

    Pros: Quite a walking distance from the train station but no problem for getting meal from nearby eateries. This hotel offer complimentary snacks and beverage for in house guest. There is self service laundry facility which is also one of the reason I have chosen this hotel. It is located at the top floor as well, I was enjoying my hot tea with the city view and cool breeze while waiting for my laundry.
    Cons: The elevator is a bit too small for me, probably just enough fit in 4 pax for safety reason. So I actually have waited a bit while checking out from the hotel, perhaps it is the peak hour of elevator usage.

    Pros: Located a short walk from the train station, free coffee and snacks, laundry facilities and a comfy bed. A great little hotel :-)

    Convenience location for food

    Pros: Located abt 10 mins walk fr the Hua lien Train Station. Though they do not provide breakfast, they provide gd coffee, sof drinks, water, snacks at the reception. There is utensils, basin & microwave available for use. Just next to the htl is a very gd dumpling, bao & fried carrot kueh shop that starts early morning like 6.30am. U can buy & bring to the reception to eat b4 going to the bus station to take early morning bus to Taroko Grouge. Around the corners r plenty of restaurants.
    Cons: The room is small for triple. They only hve 1xqueen size bed & 1 single bed. So gd to hve even number friends to go along.

    Faclities in need of maintainence but otherwise has the makings of a good hotel

    Pros: Nice aesthetics on the roof top (seaside camping vibe with hammocks and tents) along with a good selection of free snacks and drinks. Staff were very helpful. There were friendly cats in the neighborhood which provided entertainment. The Christmas decorations and market.
    Cons: Room did not quite match the pictures; was dated and in need of maintenance. Loose power sockets. Bathroom was mouldy in spots, could not flush toilet paper down the toilet. The shower functions didn't all work.

    Pros: Located only a few minutes on foot from the train station and even though the hotel is located on a main street, there was no traffic noise at all. Room was nice and clean and had everything that was needed. Close to restaurants and convenience stores.

    Avoid this hotel if possible.

    Cons: We stayed in room 705. It had a moldy and stale smell. Upon arrival we immediately saw toe nail clippings from previous occupants on the carpet. It was disgusting. Upon closer inspection we saw a plethora of mold spots growing on the bathroom roof. Mold and damp is an obvious problem in this room. The room was freezing cold, so we had to ask for more bedding. We were given one blanket and a tiny fan heater.

    cold room, itchy bed...

    Pros: location was ok. lobby was cozy with Christmas dcor.
    Cons: it was cold that night and we told the hotel staff. the hotel staff replied saying the aircondition was central to the whole building and could not be made warmer. the gave us blankets which appeared rather unclean (attached). I felt itchy throughout the night and I found rashes on my back the next day when... overall, i think Meci is more of a hostel rather than a hotel. not happy that lonely planet recommended this place.

    Pros: The location is about a 10mins walk from the train station. Staff are friendly. Room, relatively small as we have big luggage. A very sustainable hotel I would say. There were mosquitoes in the room but you may get the repellent from the staff. There is washing machine in the hotel and we were not able to use it as it was in use when we needed it. But, there is also a laundry shop next door!
    Cons: Best to bring your own mosquito repellent.
