InterContinental (known initially as Intercontinental Hotel Corp.) was created on April 3, 1946, as an auxiliary of Pan American World Airways to foster the execution of an idea that was formed during a White House breakfast between Pan Am president Juan Trippe and former U.S. Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt a year ago. The two thought that luxury hotels could attract tourists and businessmen in Latin America. The first property under its portfolio was the Grande Hotel in Belém, Brazil, which was bought and converted into the brand. It has since then grown to several hotels even beyond Latin America.

Cons: Shower wasnt working, bathroom not clean, fridge cabinet door broken, furniture looks old and not in a good condition. I have to request another room for my first stay. Second stay bathroom wasnt clean I could find hairs in the bathtub and tiles. They need to renovate the interior of the room

A destination resort hotel

Pros: After staying in other Cali hotels, I decided to treat myself to a stay at the Intercontinental for a few days. I felt like I was at a destination resort. I had already explored Cali prior to checking in to the Intercontinental, so for the most part, I stayed on property and was as happy as I could be. The rooms were clean, as were all public areas in the hotel. The breakfast buffet was extensive. The five on-site restaurants offered an incredible variety of food and drink and the prices were reasonable, considering the premium location. The gym is large and offers a wide variety of equipment. The pool area is enormous and very clean. The on-site spa offered a variety of services. I had a sports massage and a foot reflexology treatment. Both were quite good. I was very happy there was an ATM and bank in the same building. As a single female traveler, I felt safe in the hotel area. Everyone on staff was friendly and attentive. I would definitely stay here again.

Cons: Adjacent to (part of?) the hotel is the Marco Polo Casino. It was a little sad. To me, it was not a "real" casino, because there were only machines - no dealers.

Cons: Staff. There seem to be many confusions in the restaurants, very long waits for food. We had to wait over an hour for our kids food , when we complained no one had the professionalism to apologize, nonetheless it seemed that they were offended because we asked what was taking so long with the food. We were also charged a different price for the breakfast buffet for the kids, when we checked in we were given a 25k pesos per child, but at the buffet they charged us 32.5k pesos per child, when we acknowledged this , the staff instead of keeping the price that we were given, said that the prices had changed. The hotel needs to train the staff better when mistakes happen as this is not the guests fault.
